Miss America on The Value of Public Speaking

Miss America on The Value of Public Speaking The Miss America Organization is more than a competition, it’s a 365 day effort to advance scholarship and service. It is a voice for young women who are looking to participate in social change. Today, the Miss America Organization is more relevant than ever. We are passionate about educating young women, and we provide them with a platform to strive for their own personal growth through academics, community service, and more. We are leading the charge in empowering women, and I am honored to be Miss America during this year of immense transformation. The organization continues to make an impact on women by giving them a voice and the strength to be leaders. In the past few of months, I’ve had the pleasure of participating in many events across the country where I’ve had the opportunity to use my voice and speak on behalf of the Miss America Organization, to thousands of people, ranging from young students, parents and more, about the importance of education and scholarships, women’s empowerment and community service. The Value Of Public Speaking One of the most rewarding parts of my role as Miss America is my ability to use my platform to empower everyone I meet to show them what it means to strive for their goals, and to dream big. Most of the time, the way I convey these values is through public speaking. Over the last six months, through my role as Miss America, I have had plenty of practice with public speaking. I regularly give speeches in front of large crowds on topics that I am extremely passionate about. These topics include scholarship opportunities, female empowerment, community service, and making a social impact. I believe that public speaking is an important skill to master, and I have witnessed firsthand the effect of delivering a powerful speech. Some Public Speaking Tips Here are some of the public speaking tips I have picked up throughout my career: To be an effective public speaker, identify what you want the audience to learn from your speech. When applicable, establish the who, what, when, where, and why. If you have the ability to do so, choose a topic you are experienced with and passionate about. Your experience establishes your credibility, and your passion engages your audience. To perfect your timing, eliminate nerves, and make your speech seem effortless, practice your speech in the mirror before you present it. Talk TO your audience, not AT them. Approach your speech as if it were just a conversation with a colleague. Keep your audience engaged by making and maintaining eye contact. Consider utilizing your space. It is not always an effective technique to remain behind a podium. Try to make your audience FEEL something. Although it is unlikely your audience will remember every detail of your speech, it will be difficult for them to forget the emotion they felt.  These tips only scratch the surface of what it takes to find confidence and deliver a powerful speech, but following them in your own way is a helpful place to start. Never underestimate the impact you can make by utilizing your voice! Follow @MissAmerica on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Snapchat for updates on my year of service. The Female Tax Women Are Paying More For Health Services -

The Female Tax Women Are Paying More For Health Services - Ending the gender pay gap is one of the most fundamental labour concerns of our time. The consequences of the gender pay gap are far-reaching, from complex issues like poverty and inequality to everyday worries like how much we can save for the future, what our retirement pot might look like and our ability to pay off loans. As new research from specialist lawyers Bolt Burdon Kemp reiterates, the consequences of women earning less than men can also spill into the health realm. Through a survey of 2000 Brits, they found that, on average, women in the UK spend 30% more than men on reproductive healthcare essentials. And the issues faced by women don’t stop there. We’ve outlined some of the findings from their study into reproductive health below.   This is the female tax in real life. Younger women spend more than older women on healthcare The research found that women spend on average £372.36 per year on their healthcare, with younger women spending more than older women. When you drill down into the specifics, this equates to women aged 25-34 spending between £15- £20 per month on average and those aged 16-24 spending around £10- £15 per month on average. As might be expected, older women â€" particularly those over 55 years â€" tend to spend most on incontinence products and products related to the menopause. All the above highlight a trend observed by consultant gynaecologist Dr Anne Henderson who says that “there’s been a sea change in the way young women approach their health. Gym memberships are rocketing and smoking and drinking rates are going down.” Older women are also investing more attention and money in their health, she adds, saying “older women are putting more and more of their money towards complementary therapies such as osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists or medical herbalists.” Women spend more time at doctors than men As well as spending more money on their health, women are spending significantly more time dealing with their health than men. For example, the British Medical Association found that women are more likely to come into contact with health services than men; not least because they tend to be in charge of caregiving duties including taking children and sick relatives to the doctors. The new research found that approximately 235,000 British women reported having had to go to the doctor for their reproductive health more than 10 times in the past 5 years. Yet, no men reported having to do the same. And, when they do go to the doctor, their issue tends to take longer to be resolved. Approximately 476,000 British women say they’ve had to go back to the doctor more than 11 times because their issue wasn’t resolved the first time. Only 162,000 men said the same. Women lack support about reproductive health With all the above in mind, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that the study found that 4 million women in the UK say they have no-one to talk to about their reproductive health. More women than men say it’s difficult to talk to their doctor about reproductive health and that they don’t feel heard when they do manage to talk to them. This is troubling considering 26% of women (versus only 18% of men) say they are worried or stressed about issues relating to their reproductive health. The Female Tax Unfortunately, the female tax is all too real.   These new findings only reiterate what we already know about the disadvantages faced by women. To go back to our first point, the latest Global Gender Pay Gap Report says it’ll take 108 years to close the gender pay gap globally. If the gap identified by Bolt Burdon Kemp regarding the way women experience the health system continues in the same vein, it’s clear we should be prepared to face an uphill battle in our quest for equality and fairness. Get more insights from the survey along with information about women’s health in general in the Bolt Burdon Kemp Women’s Health Hub. Should You Use Your Blog as a Professional Resume

Should You Use Your Blog as a Professional Resume Is a blog the best executive resume format? You know you need  resumes that get you hired, but what is the  best executive resume format? While most people still rely on traditional layouts for their resume, others are looking for something different to help them stand out from the other candidates. Many professionals have a blog they use to showcase their expertise, but is it really the best way to let your prospective employer know you are a good fit for the position? A More Authentic Feel When people are putting together their resumes, they often put their best foot forward, working hard to make sure everything is worded in a way that appeals to employers. Creating blog posts is an entirely different process that typically gives employers insight into your personality and can provide a more authentic feel for whether you will be a good fit for their business. They will be able to get inside your head and see how you think to help them make a more informed hiring decision. A More Detailed Sales Pitch Resumes that get you hired only give employers a brief snap shot of your career and the skills you have to offer. While some employers only need this information, along with an interview, more employers today are interested in making sure individuals are the perfect fit before extending an offer. A blog can give them a more in-depth look at what you know and whether you have the skills necessary to get the job done. In fact, there are people who have been hired based on their blog alone. Other Benefits of a Blog as a Resume There have been many other benefits to considering a blog in place of or as a supplement to your resume. Using your blog can be an excellent way to distinguish yourself from the other candidates for a job. It also provides insight into how well you can express yourself and your ideas. If you are applying for a job that requires a solid understanding of blogging and how it can be used, having a blog that can at least supplement your resume is an absolute necessity. Blogging may seem like a great way to share ideas and provide readers with valuable insight about your industry, but today, it can actually help you land a job as well. In fact, many employers are searching the Internet to gather more information on candidates, even if they have already submitted a traditional resume. While it may not yet be the best resume format, it is a valuable tool you can use to increase your chances of landing the job. An  executive resume writing service  can help you determine whether the blog should serve as a replacement of or a supplement to your resume.
